Sure you know the days of bachelor pads strewn with dirty dishes, unwashed clothes and empty beer cans are gone forever. The modern man now lives in a reasonable residence (that’s preferably his own), and he leads a responsible, hard-working and equally chilled-out life there. This doesn’t mean you have to live like Tony Stark (though with that kind of money it would be bad, amiright?) but average Joes can still create the ultimate bachelor pad that will impress the guys, as well as the ladies, with these four simple tips:
1. Decide Your Décor
There’s nothing more attractive to a woman than a decisive man. And having a place that’s a mish mash of colors and styles… or worse, all prison white… shows her you can’t make a decision. Or you make bad ones. So pick out neutral tones like warm creams, browns and greys and add contrasting colors like teal or a deep maroon on feature walls or with fabrics and furniture to break up the appearance without losing a pulled-together theme.
2. Fine Furniture
It’s essential to have sturdy and attractive furniture pieces—ones that will last for years and stand up to weekly poker nights. Pick your sofa carefully. You want one that’s comfortable enough to sit on and play Call of Duty for hours but not too comfortable so that you struggle to get off it when the Amazon drone shows up. If you’re going for a modern style, choose more minimalist furniture, but if you’re the handyman type into woodworking, fixing things and being hands-on, then more solid wooden furniture will be great investment pieces.
3. Invest in Sound
Having the latest gadgets will always be pretty cool but let’s admit it: guys that have far too many of the ‘latest’ thing are just damn annoying. Don’t be that guy. Instead opt for key electronic items. If you can only afford one piece of hi-tech equipment, make sure it’s your sound system. There’s nothing that guarantees a good party, guy’s night or post-date drink back at your place than a great sound set up. Be sure to get one that people can plug their own devices into and a link-up through Wi-Fi is even better.
4. Accessories are Important
Many guys skip out on accessories, but trust me, the true gentlemen doesn’t. This is because the modern guy realizes how important it is to pay attention to detail. From the cufflinks you choose to the way you lace your shoes; detail is paramount when making an impression. So get that Bob Marley poster matted and framed instead of just tacking it to the wall, pick up a manly hand wash and make sure that you buy dark colored towels, just in case you get lazy with the laundry…
And that’s it. It just takes a few simple things to ensure that your bachelor pad is great for the guys and perfect for the ladies. Now all you have to do is keep it clean…
