5 Movies That Cause Grown Men to Choke Back Tears
06/10/2009

I got $20 says a Teamster couldn't watch all five of these and not tear up.
(No, I got something in my eye, I swear...)

5 - Armageddon
With the world on the brink of utter destruction, a group of oil drillers is charged with saving humanity. And no man can deny they didn’t swallow a few extra times when Bruce Willis took Ben Affleck’s spot on the meteor, and told him to take care of his daughter.

]

4 - Karate Kid
There are multiple times in this classic where even the strongest man might have to excuse himself. But watching Daniel San take out Johnny (come on, this guy is Zack Morris on speed), with one seemingly ineffective crane kick, on an injured leg, to win the All Valley Karate final, was enough to make even Miyagi teary eyed.

3- - Lion King
Don’t be ashamed. When Mufasa dies, a part of everyone dies. True story.

2 - Rudy
“You’re five foot nothing, and hundred and nothing.” Never has a spot been more deserved than the final scene of Rudy. Any guy who has seen this (and if you haven’t seen it, you have some serious explaining to do), will proudly tell you when the Fighting Irish lift Rudy on their shoulders and carry him off the field, he sobbed like a little girl. And if you didn’t, you don’t have a soul.

1 - Brian's Song
The ultimate is the story of teammates Brian Piccolo and Gale Sayers - a movie that 300-lb linemen, who would cleat their own mother in the back of the head, can't even talk about without needing a minute.

Dude...You HAVE to find a way to get "We Are Marshall" on this list...I cry during sports movies, because I am a cryer, but this movie was not stop sorrow and inspiration...Otherwise, awesome list

No "Field of Dreams" with the game of catch with Dad? C'mon, that's the easiest one.

I've only seen two of these movies--Armageddon & Lion King--but I didn't cry during either one. Unless you count tears of boredom. And I'm a chick. (And was a kid when The Lion King came out.) I'm not sure whether to call you a name or just point & laugh.

I'm really surprised that the ending scene in 'Saving Private Ryan' didn't make the list.

"Rudy" is a piece of shit that isn't based on anything other than a bad Mary Sue article. The real Rudy never made it on the goddamnned field, and certainly never got a freaking sack. As much as I like Sean Astin, that movie is just a propaganda piece for Notre Dame footbal, and excuse me if some people outside of South Bend can't stand the Irish.

Agree with the end scene of 'Saving Private Ryan' -- Don't know what it is but when the old Ryan get choked up, so do I. Also agree with the playing catch with Dad in 'Field of Dreams'-- Oh yeah and there's something about My Dog Skip; damn that movie is sad.

What a terrible list......classic example of someone who doesn't know movies that truly make you cry. Brian's song maybe.....but the others? come on. pathetic...... And Joey....... "we are marshall" is SH$t! and represents how willing people are to be manipulated by a weak story with obvious villains and quick resolutions.... and also it is not, NOT a true story either (or Rudy - but I did enjoy the movie).
