Custom Sport Jackets - Off the Rack Prices
01/12/2008

Unless you've been doing time in a Turkish prison for the last year, you know that the sport jacket has made a comeback. They're appearing on the backs of guys in restaurants, clubs, casinos... even in coffee shops, dressed down over a t-shirt or hoodie.

While there's nothing wrong with buying off the rack - if you don't mind a pucker here or a wrinkle there - for true fit you'll want to have a jacket custom made to your unique frame. Unfortunately, many of us aren't packing enough wallet to do that. But the guys over at DressMonkey.com are making it easier, and more affordable, for us regular guys to rock a bespoke jacket.

They'll let you pick the fabric, pick the size, and pick the style - without picking your pocket. (Actually you do get to pick your pockets, but you know what I mean.) You can go one- two- or three-button. Choose peaked lapels or notched. With or without a lining. Even add a little leather under the collar. Whatever fits your personal style.

Since it's a good bet you're not a fashion designer, they have dozens of suggestions - along with pics and detailed descriptions - to guide you. Go with one of their suggestions, or use it as a base and add your own flair. And if you're concerned about the quality of the fabrics, they'll send you a free swatch book, so you can see and feel each fabric up-close before you decide.

Ordering online is step-by-step simple, and if you need a little hand holding to get proper measurements, you can check out their sizing video here to experience the "Pleasure of Measure", or give them a call and they'll talk you through it.

In about 3-5 weeks, your new, custom-fit jacket will land on your doorstep, ready to wear. And if for some reason there's too much play in the shoulders, or the sleeves hang a little too low, DressMonkey offers an alterations credit up to $25 to fix it. Me? I went Slate Gray Velvet, 3-button, narrow peak lapels, single vent, slanted pockets, the essential inside cell phone pocket, and a red silk lining. So pick something else.

Since I'm 6'6", it's almost impossible to find an off -the-rack blazer that fits. That's why I was thrilled to discover DressMonkey. I was a bit skeptical about getting a custom blazer online. But, DressMonkey provides excellent measurement instructions which were easy to follow. I love the green herringbone tweed blazer that arrived just three weeks after ordering it, and I was amazed that it fit me perfectly with no alterations needed. I wore it to Christmas parties and got plenty of compliments. I'm definitely going to buy more blazers from DressMonkey.

DressMonkey has a great selection of styles that fit perfectly, I would recommend checking out their fun linings, especially their Asian themed ones, such as the Nankeen lining.
