High Energy, No Sugar, No Crash
12/19/2007

Energy drinks are the lifeblood of students, sales people, club goers, graveyard shift workers, and others. The problem is they contain a boatload of sugar. Which gets you buzzed, but also sets you up for a huge crash. A new energy drink squeezing its way into the crowded market also wants you give you wings. It just wants let you down gently.

Syzmo (pronounced SIZZ-mo), is the first energy drink on the market to be certified organic and be Glycemic Index tested. Instead of sugar, it's sweetened with all-natural Blue Agave syrup which gives the drink a low Glycemic Index score of 30. That gives you sustained energy without suffering a crash after. It also has organic coffee fruit, guarana extract, green tea extract and yerba mate extract, giving you an herbal lift, not a sugar rush.

They've also added in some vitamins and left out the high fructose corn syrup. None of which means anything if it tastes bad. And I'm not a fan of the taste of energy drinks to begin with. So, being the guinea pig so you don't have to be, I tried one late in the day when my eyes start drooping from staring at a screen all day, and all I can think of is my couch at home.

The drink comes in three lightly carbonated flavors: Original, Passion and Prickly Pear. Not knowing what "Original" flavor means I opted for Passion. Surprisingly it tasted more like a slightly fruit-flavored soda than the typical energy drink. There wasn't that sharp, chemical aftertaste. As for the energy: there was a little more pep in my step, with no racing of my heart, no jitters... always a good sign. After, no noticeable crash. The couch got a couple hour reprieve.

I've heard of the drink but have not tried it. Thanks for the review. You'll notice that a lot of the energy drinks coming out these days are staying away from the standard medicine flavor and pushing more towards the fruity, "lightly carbonated" drinks.

We sell over 90 different drinks and are always growing. I plan on hitting up the Syzmo group and maybe you'll see them soon on our website.

My girlfriend has worked as a model for the company so I have had the chance to try all 3 flavors and have been drinking it for awhile now. My favorites are Passion and Prickly Pear (which has a Sprite/7-Up type flavor. There is little to no "crash" like I have had with Red Bull and Rock Star and all 3 flavors work very well as mixers. Passion and Vodka has been my favorite.
