Energy drinks are the lifeblood of students, sales people, club goers, graveyard shift workers, and others. The problem is they contain a boatload of sugar. Which gets you buzzed, but also sets you up for a huge crash. A new energy drink squeezing its way into the crowded market also wants you give you wings. It just wants let you down gently.
Syzmo (pronounced SIZZ-mo), is the first energy drink on the market to be certified organic and be Glycemic Index tested. Instead of sugar, it's sweetened with all-natural Blue Agave syrup which gives the drink a low Glycemic Index score of 30. That gives you sustained energy without suffering a crash after. It also has organic coffee fruit, guarana extract, green tea extract and yerba mate extract, giving you an herbal lift, not
a sugar rush.
They've also added in some vitamins and left out the high fructose corn syrup. None of which means anything if it tastes bad. And I'm not a fan of the taste of energy drinks to begin with. So, being the guinea pig so you don't have to be, I tried one late in the day when my eyes start drooping from staring at a screen all day, and all I can think of is my couch at home.
The drink comes in three lightly carbonated flavors: Original, Passion and Prickly Pear. Not knowing what "Original" flavor means I opted for Passion. Surprisingly it tasted more like a slightly fruit-flavored soda than the typical energy drink. There wasn't that sharp, chemical aftertaste. As for the energy: there was a little more pep in my step, with no racing of my heart, no jitters... always a good sign. After, no noticeable crash. The couch got a couple hour reprieve.
