First Taste: Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Honey

If you’ve read my Twitter feed this week, you know I was in Las Vegas to sample (and by sample, I mean drink until my liver waved a white flag), the first new offering to come out of Lynchburg in a generation: Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Honey.

And my first impression? It was well worth the wait.

Before you go thinking this is merely a “flavored” whiskey, with a little sugar or artificial flavor added in, know that this is 100% Old No. 7, blended with a specially concocted honey liquor made from real Tennessee honey. And believe me, you can taste the “realness”. Smooth, charcoal-mellowed whiskey goodness, with a thick, sweet honey kicker.

Now I’m not one for combining “sweet” and “whiskey,” but this works. And works not only for truly enjoyable sipping (make sure it’s chilled), but for mixing into cocktails. I’ve tried a few of them (more than once, purely fro research purposes), and I have added them below, so you can give them a try. And have your girl try too. Tennessee Honey, or Jack Honey as we’ve been calling it, is the perfect way to get her to appreciate all that whiskey has to offer.

In fact, besides the cocktails below, you might want to add a little into your after-dinner coffee, or pour some over her ice cream. Trust me, it’ll make you want to slap your grandmama down. And my friend Kalley, a Tennessee native who’s been drinking Jack since she was old enough to (legally) hold a glass, and an enthusiastic Honey convert, suggested this would go perfectly over some homemade bread pudding. The possibilities are almost endless. And fortunately for us, so is the supply of Jack Honey coming out of Lynchburg.

Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Honey Smash
This is the one most of us chose to drink throughout the week. Think of it as a whiskey twist on a mojito. A refreshing drink for the coming hot months.
