Oh the weather outside is frightful, and if you are to purchase these shoes I am about to talk about do not wear them until the Spring. I love this time of year for many reasons. One reason in particular is that Nike knows the best way to get you ready for the holidays is having a countdown sneaker list that usually starts Black Friday and ends right around the holidays. Most of the time the pair of kicks that they will sell at that time is a highly anticipated Air Jordan. Last year it was the Air Jordan XI Space Jam edition, and this year Nike is going for an encore with the AJ XI Cool Grey edition. I will save the best for last, so lets take a look at all the must-haves for all my fellow sneakerheads on your list.
(NOTE: Because of limited availability and price fluctuations depending on that availability, that information is only included here where possible. You’ll have to check your own stores and online auctions for more info.)
1. Air Jordan XIII
Nike released the Air Jordan XIII in two color patterns at the end of this year. On Black Friday, Nike released the XIII in the Flint Blue, but the AJ XIII in white and red will be released on December 18th. This is shoe is in my Air Jordan top five list. It was modeled after one of his nicknames, the Black Panther. The shoe has the pattern of a paw and has a hologram near on the back of the shoe with the Jumpman logo and the number 23 in the hologram picture. The unique design by Tinker Hatfield makes the AJ XIII a must have for any shoe collection.
2. Foamposite Nike Air Force 1
The “Foamposite” Nike Air Force 1 Hi Metallic Silver is a shoe hybrid, mixing the Foamposite and the Air Force 1 shoe. The “Foamposite” Nike Air Force 1 Black will potentially be the lone, major, Air Force 1 release of the Holiday 2010 season. Any time that there is only one edition of a hot selling sneaker it creates a huge demand for the shoe. So if this is on your list make friends with a manager of a Footlocker or Finishline so you can get a pair.
3. Nike 1/2 Cent
The Nike 1/2 Cent is one of the best Nike hybrid sneakers. The “Cranberry” 1/2 Cent will be coming out on December 18th. The 1/2 Cent is also known for belonging to Lil’ Penny, a puppet used in Nike Basketball commercials. The actual Penny Hardaway had already retired when the shoe was released, so dropping a puppet (voiced by Chris Rock), into the campaign made for an easy transition. This is a great looking shoe and could be sitting under the tree waiting for you this Christmas. (Puppet not included.)
4. The Nike Dunk limited edition Delorean
Oh, this hits many nerves for geeks and sneakerheads. For those who love Back to the Future, or just want to have a limited edition shoe from Nike’s Dunk collection, this is a MUST HAVE! The limited edition Delorean Nike Dunk reinterprets the car’s gull-wing doors on the shoe’s bottom. The graphic window shades on the DMC-12’s rear appear as lines on the heel cap, while the Belfast stamp on the tongue is a nod to the Irish factory that originally produced the vehicle.
It was sold on Black Friday, and was only available exclusively at PacSun, for $90.00. There were 1,000 shoes made and with a price of 90 bucks, they sold out faster then your pants split after your fifth helping of turkey. Only way to get them now is on eBay. To anyone going to buy shoes on eBay – especially Jordans or limited edition shoes – I say CAUTION! Some people sell fakes, and yes, even I was sold a pair of fakes. And it makes me think not once, not twice, but thrice about buying shoes on eBay. For those legitimate sneaker sellers on eBay I apologize, but a fair warning was needed.
5. Nike Air Max 90
The line of Nike Air Max runners is one of the biggest sneaker release themes of 2010. These are classic shoes nearly everyone had back in the day, and the stylish white/blue/black color combination makes them a sick pair. The Nike Air Max 90 is a men’s retro running shoe with Max Air in the heel for comfort and cushioning. This classic can be yours for $95. It came out earlier this month, and is still available.
6. Air Jordan XI
This is perfection. In any color, this shoe is my favorite. Plus I don’t think I will ever find a more comfortable shoe. This shoe is also one of the most sought after shoes year after year. The Cool Grey will come out two days before Christmas and people will be waiting in malls and outside stores for its midnight release.
Usually online the shoe sells out worldwide in about 5 minutes. If there ever was a recession buster just keep on releasing this shoe every month in any color combination, and make sure you buy stock in Nike. Personally, I hope to get this shoe, and even though I have three styles of this shoe already, I still get giddy at the thought of scoring another pair.
