Lace 'Em Up
06/20/2007

Lacing up our shoes isn't something most of us spend a lot of time thinking about. (Mostly I just keep them the way they were when I bought them.) But apparently with some people it's an obsession. On the site www.shoe-lacing.com (yep, there's a site for everyone) you can find those people.

They've found there are over two trillion ways to thread a lace through the six eyelets in a typical shoe. Fortunately, they chose only 31 of them to present. If you're looking to an alternative to the typical "Criss Cross" method that most of us use, you can select such exotic lacing methods as the Double Back, the Checkerboard, or the Sawtooth. He even has a feature comparison!

Just for the heck of it, I 'rewired' my shoes with double helix lacing right now. I've always found my shoes hard to tighten, and he also says there's "less wear and tear from friction." I'll fare with it for a while.

It could mean one less annoyance in the morning. :)

I am so weirded out by this, because, freaky as this is, when I get new sneaks, they're never laced, and I always like them to be laced evenly, so last time I was sat there thinking "I bet some weirdo online will have explained how this should be done" and it appears they have. Brill.
