Retro Ties With a New Twist: Tie One On This Weekend
05/14/2010

It's no secret I'm a big fan of the whole retro/Mad Men/Rat Pack style thats back in style. Fedoras, narrow lapels, ties. Especially skinny ties. If I'm going to a weekend event or cocktail party, my classic black skinny tie is usually part of that night's look.

Then I got sent one of these Nobis ties from their Spring collection, where they've taken that old-school style and given it an updated look with new patterns and textures. And left "the usual" back in your dad's closet.

The two black ties in the collection depart from the ordinary with a splash of color, yellow on the linen version (upper left in the pic), while red and white embroidered stitching adds some 60's design flavor to the shiny poly/nylon version (middle).

If you're looking for more than basic black, check out the "acid wash denim" one pictured in the lower right, for those of you who are nostalgic for the time of hair bands and 80s-tastic mullets. And then there's the one I'm wearing this weekend, the cotton plaid version shown on the right, with the green paint stroke. The mix of colors let it work with anything, or bring some life to a gray dress shirt. Ol'Blue eyes would be proud.
