Here's another one of those "I Can't Believe They Got Funding For This" studies: Psychologists from Radboud University in The Netherlands have published findings in the Journal of Experimental and Social Psychology, proving, scientifically, that men lose their minds when we talk to attractive women.
Thanks for the revelation, professors. I couldn't have figured that out watching any one of a hundred guys crash and burn on a typical Saturday night.
But they went ahead and spent a lot of time and money and designed a test to prove it. And found that when a guy spends even a few minutes in the presence of a woman he thinks is hot, he'll perform less well in tests designed to measure brain function than guys who talk to women they don't find attractive.
Why is this? The researchers think the reason may be "that men use up so much of their brain function or 'cognitive resources' trying to impress beautiful women, they have little left for other tasks."
Anyone else think this sounds an awful lot like the "no blood left to flow to the brain" joke women have been throwing at us for years?
So what prompted the study? A desire to help humanity? Larger, in-depth psychological research into revealing the true nature of the human condition? Nope. One of the psychologists was trying to pick up a woman one night, and found he couldn't remember his own address. And he decided to find out why. (Next on the research agenda: Why, after downing several appletinis, he told everyone on the research team he loved them, then started to cry.)
Another note: Not surprisingly, women in the study were not affected after talking to a handsome man. Apparently they look for "other attributes, such as wealth, youth and kindness." How we look, had no effect.
